Entagl vs Intercom: Three Quick Messages, One Reply or Three?
Intercom is a support desk with Fin on top. Entagl is an AI agent for businesses that sell in WhatsApp, Instagram and TikTok messages. Here is where each one holds up, read from Intercom's own pages.

Entagl vs Intercom comes down to what your inbox is for: Intercom suits a support desk with an AI agent on top, and Entagl suits businesses that sell in WhatsApp, Instagram and TikTok messages. As of October 2026, Intercom's Fin FAQ says Fin answers only the latest of several quick messages and can't be reassigned a chat from the teammate inbox (source), and Fin bills $0.99 per outcome on top of paid seats (source). Entagl answers a burst once, resumes on your timer after your team steps in, and includes the AI in every plan.
Where is Intercom strong, and who is it built for?
Intercom is a help desk first: ticketing, a public help center, and Fin, its AI agent, on top. Fin also answers on SMS, Slack and Discord, three channels Entagl's Receptionist does not cover. Its shopping agent handles WooCommerce, Magento and BigCommerce stores in web chat, and Fin Voice calls land in the same inbox as chats.
Fin checks each query and validates that every answer is grounded in your content (source), and Fin Vision reads customer images and PDFs at no extra cost. The compliance list runs from AES-256 at rest to SOC 2 Type II and four ISO certifications (source), with a HIPAA BAA on the Expert plan.
On price, Intercom costs less to start: one Essential seat is $29 a month billed yearly ($39 month to month) (source), and Fin is $0.99 per outcome, charged at most once per conversation. Entagl's list price is higher.
Where does Intercom limit you?
A burst of messages, and your team stepping in
Customers type in bursts: "hi", "how much", "for two people". Intercom's Fin FAQ says a customer sending many quick messages without giving Fin a chance to respond "will only get an answer to their most recent reply" (source). So "hi" and "how much" get no answer of their own. We found no wait window or message-grouping setting on Intercom's public pages, only a fixed 4-minute inactivity check-in (source).
Fin's session ends when a teammate replies to the customer (source), and we found no timed auto-resume setting on Intercom's public pages. "It's not possible to reassign a conversation to Fin from a teammate inbox," the FAQ says (source). A teammate has to trigger a reusable workflow, and Workflows are "Not included" on the Essential plan (source).
Seats, outcomes and what a reply costs
Every teammate who talks to customers needs a paid seat, $29 to $132 a month billed yearly (source). Fin is then billed per outcome: $0.99 for a resolution or handoff, $9.99 for a qualification such as a booked call (source). A customer who simply leaves counts as an assumed resolution, and it is charged. Instagram, Facebook and Workflows need the Advanced plan (source).
Calls and bookings
Fin Voice answers inbound phone calls, but it "is currently limited to select customers partnered with our Sales team", and calls end automatically at 29.5 minutes (source). It "is offered on a custom pricing plan" (source). And the WhatsApp FAQ says "our WhatsApp integration does not currently support phone calls" (source).
Fin for Sales books meetings through Calendly, and you need a paid Calendly plan (source); each booked call is a $9.99 outcome (source). We found no mention of double-booking prevention for services or reminder handling on Intercom's public pages.
Comments, shopping and ad source
Intercom's social channels carry direct messages only. On Instagram, "You won't receive messages for comments on posts" (source), and a post on your Facebook wall "won't appear in your team inbox" (source).
Fin for Ecommerce syncs Shopify products and stock and handles checkout at $0.99 per resolution, but "Email, Social, Voice, and Slack are not currently supported" (source). Full shopping lives in the web Messenger, and we found no mention of Trendyol on that page (source).
Ad attribution runs on UTM tags: "the landing URL associated with your UTM parameters must have the Intercom Messenger installed" (source). We found no mention of capturing a Click-to-WhatsApp ad referral on Intercom's public pages (source).
Languages and changing the setup
Fin replies "in the supported languages you have added to your workspace settings" (source), 45 in all (source). Fin Operator proposes content changes you approve, but it "can't modify workflows, metadata, Fin settings, or channel settings" (source), and it comes with the Pro add-on, from $99 a month (source).
What does Entagl do instead?
Receptionist is Entagl's AI for the channels where service and retail businesses get asked "how much": WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger, TikTok, Telegram, email and web chat. When a customer sends several quick messages in a row, Receptionist waits a short window (8 seconds by default, adjustable from 1 second to 5 minutes), collects everything typed in it, and answers the whole thought once.
When your team replies, in the Entagl inbox or straight from the Instagram or WhatsApp app, the AI pauses for that chat. It comes back on its own after the time you set, 60 minutes by default, or stays paused until you switch it back. More on this in what to look for in AI customer conversation controls.
You buy credits. The AI agent is included on every plan, the Free one too, with no per-seat, per-resolution or per-channel fee, and team members and contacts are unlimited. A busy inbox costs more than a quiet one. A bigger team doesn't.
Bookings happen in the chat: real calendar slots, no double bookings, reschedules in the same thread. Reminders go out on WhatsApp, where a tap on Confirm, Reschedule or Cancel reaches the AI, or as plain SMS. Comments Automation, a separate add-on, posts your prewritten reply on Instagram, Facebook and TikTok, and on Instagram and Facebook it can also send a DM that Receptionist carries on. When a customer comes from a Click-to-WhatsApp or Instagram ad, the AI knows which offer they saw. Languages need no setup: 100+ are detected automatically.
Calls are a separate product. Coordinator answers and places calls on phone numbers and WhatsApp Business Calling. It can ring your team first, takes what nobody answers, confirms appointments and wins back no-shows, up to the maximum call length you set. The same phone number links a customer's WhatsApp chats and calls to one record; other duplicates can be merged. Test any voice agent first with how to evaluate and test an AI phone agent.
Later changes go through the AI Manager, by chat or voice, each one an approval card with rollback.

FAQ
Where is Intercom the stronger choice?
If you run a support desk. Intercom has ticketing and a public help center, Fin answers on SMS, Slack and Discord, and its shopping agent works with WooCommerce, Magento and BigCommerce. It also costs less to start; Entagl's list price is higher.
What happens when a customer sends several messages in a row, or someone on my team steps in?
Intercom's Fin FAQ says only the latest message gets an answer, and a teammate must trigger a workflow to bring Fin back. Entagl waits a short window (8 seconds by default), answers once, and resumes after the pause you choose.
Can Entagl take calls and bookings the way Fin does?
Yes, through two products. Receptionist books real calendar slots in the chat at no per-booking fee and sends reminders. Coordinator, a separate Entagl product with its own credits, answers and places phone and WhatsApp calls, while Intercom limits Fin Voice to select customers on custom pricing.
Not sure which side you're on? Book a 30-minute demo and bring a week of real conversations; we'll show you what Receptionist would have done with each.
